Engine (Power)
The base engine is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder that produces 184 horsepower and 171 pound-feet of torque. With most of the trims, Jeep offers an optional 3.2-liter V-6 engine that generates 271 horsepower and 239 pound-feet of torque. Both engines come standard with a nine-speed automatic transmission and a choice between front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive with all the trims except the Trailhawk which only comes with four-wheel drive.
Performance
The Cherokee performs well both on and off the road. The Selec-Terrain four-wheel drive system allows you to get the maximum amount of traction no matter the conditions. You can manually select the driving mode or set it to auto, and the Cherokee will decide what it needs. You can also use this compact SUV to tow up to 4,500 pounds when equipped with the V-6 and the optional towing package.
Interior
The cabin's high-quality feel will appeal to many drivers. It has a lot of space both in the front and the back, with reclining seats for the backseat passengers. The top three trims come with an 8.4-inch touchscreen display with the Uconnect infotainment system. This includes Siri Eyes free, smartphone app integration, and a USB audio interface. The Limited has leather upholstery, and the Overland has an upgraded leather interior. In the back, the Cherokee has 24.6 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats up, and when you fold them down, it opens up to 54.9 cubic feet.
Safety Features
All the trims come standard with anti-lock disc brakes and both stability and traction control. A rearview camera is standard in all the trims except the Sport where it is available as an option. The top three trims have the option to add the Technology package with additional safety systems including adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning with lane-keep assist, and forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking. This package also includes automatic wipers, automatic high beams, and a blind-spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert.
