2017 Ram 5500 Chassis Cab

The base engine for the 5500 Chassis Cab is a 6.4-liter V-8 HEMI. This generates up to 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque. Ram also offers the option for a powerful 6.7-liter Cummins turbo diesel. This engine produces 320 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque with the six-speed manual transmission. Pair it with the six-speed automatic for 325 horsepower and 750 pound-feet of torque. Rear wheel drive is standard with either engine, but you can opt for four-wheel drive.

Ram designed the Chassis Cab for work, and it performs without question. When properly equipped, the 5500 can tow up to 29,600 pounds. Ram designed the suspension to provide better roll stiffness for a more confident feel around turns, and they redesigned the ladder frame using high-strength steel, eight separate cross-members, and hydroformed rails for a stronger and more efficient foundation. This helps add to the towing power and payload capabilities.

The cabin of the Chassis cab received some updates for 2017. You'll find upgraded materials inside along with some new color themes and soft touch materials. Ram also updated the controls for the multimedia system. Depending on the trim, it can come with an 8.4-inch touch screen and the Uconnect infotainment system that sits in a new center stack. Ram 5500's with the UConnect system now has HD radio and the option to add Wi-Fi. The Uconnect system also comes with voice control so the driver can make phone calls, use the navigation system, and adjust the sound without having to take their hands off the wheel or their eyes off the road.

All the models come with electronic stability control, trailer sway control, and hill-start assist. They also have a rain brake support system and all-speed traction control. The 5500 comes standard with a seven-pin wiring harness integrated right into the bumper to help make sure trailers stay safely secured and connected to the truck. You'll also get the security of supplemental side curtain air bags both in the front and rear seats and front seat-mounted side air bags.
